John Deere 8820 electromagnetic clutch

Hi, I have a problem with my electo- clutch. I am 5 days from getting parts and I have read here you can use two bolts to engage the clutch to drive the feeder. Has anyone done this? Any help would be appreciated.

As I remember it, there's two thread holes in the cast iron sheave used to pull the clutch apart.

You install two smaller bolts that pass through those threads and screw into the clutch hub, 3/8", perhaps, NOT sure of the length.

I've done it on my 7700 be sure your bolts tighten against the outer pulley or they will break. not to log though or you will bend some sheet metal inside the electric clutch good luck

Look in your operator manual. It might even be in the header manual. It has been years since I looked it up. There is a page in the manual that will show you how the lock out bolts work. They are a special bolt with a necked down end on them. This end fits inside holes in the center of the electric clutch. I have made them by grinding the threads off long bolts. Blow all the dirt/dust out of the feeder house drive pulley. If you look it has two hole with internal threads in them. The lock out bolts go in these holes. When you have the holes cleaned out slowly turn the pulley by hand until you see the hole in the clutch that the bolts need to go into. When you get the bolts in you need then tight but not too tight. You can push the back out of the clutch. So lightly with a wrench and then lock jam nut on the outside to hold the bolts in place.

I looked in the online parts manual but could not find the bolts listed. I know they are there but who knows what JD called them.
