6600 with 329 motor

I have a 6600 hydo that i bought last yr and someone put a 329 in it .well it does not have enough power to run the combine right,
The guy I bought it off of gave me a turbo to put on it well i did this yr and the seal is out of turbo and it is spraying oil every where,
I was talking to a friend after the fact and he does not think a turbo is going to give me the power i needs.I hate to spend 700$ on a new turbo and not get the power i need and will the motor holed up to a turbo. No ideal how mine hours are on it.
What's your thoughts on the matter.
Also i have another 6600 with 404 in it (part machine)how big of a job is it pull the motor?

I just swapped 329 in a 4400 removed old engine from machine removed engine from donor machine and installed in new machine was done in one weekend. Hydro should be a little easier

Transplant the 404 if you want more power. What crops and how big of header are you trying to push through your 6600? Most guys around here got along fine with the 329 diesel and even the 303/329 gas engines but we don't grow corn and beans out here in MT.

The 329 diesel was offered for almost the full production run. It was only the last year or so they went to the 404. 303 gas/329 diesel to start with then 329 gas/329 diesel and finally just the 404.

You must have some thing else wrong. The 329 was the engine offered on the JD 6600 for the majority of the run. The 404 was only in later models or side hill machines. I used JD 6600 with the 329 and did not have any trouble.

I am thinking your injector pump is weak. Had a 6600 that had no power and we had the injector pump rebuilt by JD and it made worlds of difference.

my 6600 has the 329 diesel, and no problems with 20 foot header in beans, flax, wheat, canola. The old girl just keeps on threshing. Had to have the injector pump rebuilt this fall, but lack of power was not the issue. Just kept stalling on me.

well when I am running beans (20ft head)and i get into thicker beans the rpms on the thrasher start droping .So i have to slow the ground speed down to a crawl.
I was told today that the 329 was also put in the 4400 and they where hp down for the small machine.
so I am wondering if the last owner put 329 out of a 4400 .So if this is the case what is the different?
