Cleaner M2 hydro won't move

Ok, I'll try to explain this the best I can. The M2 my brother usually runs it but my dad was running it. I work on most of the equipment we have but am not real familiar with the hydro drive on one of these. Anyway, my brother told my dad to put the gear transmission in neutral when he gets out to prevent it from creeping accidentally. So that's what my dad did when he got out to move the truck, but he wasn't sure which shifter he moved, the Hi-Lo shifter or the speed shifter. When he got back in, he tried to put it back into gear, and it seemed to go into LO and 1st, but when the hydro lever is moved, the combine won't move, it almost sounds like it is making a slight gear clash sound or something, until you pull the hydro lever back to its neutral position. Just to be sure it was truly in gear, I unhooked both of the shifting linkages down behind the RH tire, and manually shifted both of them into gear. Still won't move, still makes the slight gear clash sound when the hydro lever is moved either way from neutral. So, to be sure, I manually shifted the gear transmission into all of its possible combinations, and it will not move in any range at any speed, just get that slight gear clash noise. When moving the hydro lever before the noise starts, you can see the trans brake (Is that what it is with the speed sensor on it?) It was dark, so hard to see real well in there, but before it makes that noise, that pulley or whatever that is next to where the shifting rods are, will move ever so slightly, then stop when the noise starts. I don't have the parts or servicd book here, it's over at the other farm, so I haven't had a chance to look at it yet and see what's in there. This is just a guess, but is there some sort of damper drive plate between the actual hydro drive unit and the gear transmission? That's almost what it seems like could have happened, but I don't know. It's been working great all along until my dad shifted the gear transmission today. I was gonna get my gauges out tomorrow and check charge pressure once I find where I need to hook into it. Another question, it's about 300 yards from my shop at the end of the field, would it hurt to tow it back to the shop if it's running and the gear transmission is in neutral? Hoping to finish corn this week... dang it!!
Thanks guys!!

989-560-8554. He has all the parts new and used. Great guy and full of knowledge. He answers all day but is open usually from 5:30-9;00/9:30pm. Real handy for parts.

There is, for lack of a better term, a set of change gears under that cover, where the parking brake drum is . A friend of mine had one wallk off the shaft on his, and he list some gear teeth.

It could possibly be that.

Good luck!

Not to jump to a conclusion. I would lower the screen and take the access cover off the transmission housing. Inside you will see the output shaft of the hydro, a splined coupler, and the input shaft of transmission. I have seen the centering bolt of coupler break. The coupler slide towards the input shaft of transmission and then strip the splines off the end of the hydro output shaft. A&I sells the hydro output shaft in the aftermarket. Remember each time you change directions of the combine it reverses the direction of this shaft causing wear of the splines.

After just having the hydro out on mine the first place I would check would be drive coupler. To see if it broke or stripped

Thank you guys! This is very good information, at least gives me a starting point! To me it sounds like a stripped coupler, that was my initial thought, but I wasn't sure what was in there that linked the hydro to the gear transmission. I'll check it out as soon as I can and let you guys know
Thanks again

Well, I got it! It was the splined coupled. The centering bolt had broke, so I put a new bolt in it, I finished up the field I was doing, and it quit moving. This time, the bolt is still intact, but I can see the remnants of splines laying in the housing. It's back at the shop now, so I'll pull the hydro and replace the coupler and whatever else is ground up in there. Thanks a lot for the input guys!
