Finally made it to about 2/3 done. There have been three days without a combine breakdown. The 9500 doesn't have quite 3000 separator hours on it, but things have been aging out this year. I put trough liners in the grain tank before harvest and new cross augers in. One was the wrong part number but I didn't catch it. That caused it up bust its way out of the side of the combine when I tried to unload the first bin full. Fixed that and then it was a shredded fan belt because the bearing went. Then it was a broken adjusting bolt on the cylinder sheaves. Then it was the straw walker gearbox. Then it was rear wheel assist out due to broken wiring. Then it was the table auger chain (which was new along with all of the sprockets when I started).
Today it ate the feederhouse chain. I thought I got it shut down right away but I ended up finding six chain slats on the straw walkers. Actually one had punched through the walker and the precleaner so I spent my night straightening metal from the inside of the combine right behind the cylinder. Those straw walkers are comfy. I got all of the metal straightened out and the old feeder house chain out. I have the new one and will hopefully get it in sometime before lunch so I can get back in the field.
I'm over harvest this year! All these beans are going to the bill at Deere. It's going to be a big one. They did the walker box and walker bearings. I blew a hydraulic block going to town with it so that was another thousand plus labor. Last I knew it was around $10k and they had it another day after that. Ugh. I'm tired of paying them to stare at it and think about it, but some of those things I just can't get done myself. Dang old combine. I'm hunting for a nice old Massey to have as a sub unit. It would be a small one but at least I could still be on the field when precious decides to take a vacation again.
