I'm over harvest!

Finally made it to about 2/3 done. There have been three days without a combine breakdown. The 9500 doesn't have quite 3000 separator hours on it, but things have been aging out this year. I put trough liners in the grain tank before harvest and new cross augers in. One was the wrong part number but I didn't catch it. That caused it up bust its way out of the side of the combine when I tried to unload the first bin full. Fixed that and then it was a shredded fan belt because the bearing went. Then it was a broken adjusting bolt on the cylinder sheaves. Then it was the straw walker gearbox. Then it was rear wheel assist out due to broken wiring. Then it was the table auger chain (which was new along with all of the sprockets when I started).

Today it ate the feederhouse chain. I thought I got it shut down right away but I ended up finding six chain slats on the straw walkers. Actually one had punched through the walker and the precleaner so I spent my night straightening metal from the inside of the combine right behind the cylinder. Those straw walkers are comfy. I got all of the metal straightened out and the old feeder house chain out. I have the new one and will hopefully get it in sometime before lunch so I can get back in the field.

I'm over harvest this year! All these beans are going to the bill at Deere. It's going to be a big one. They did the walker box and walker bearings. I blew a hydraulic block going to town with it so that was another thousand plus labor. Last I knew it was around $10k and they had it another day after that. Ugh. I'm tired of paying them to stare at it and think about it, but some of those things I just can't get done myself. Dang old combine. I'm hunting for a nice old Massey to have as a sub unit. It would be a small one but at least I could still be on the field when precious decides to take a vacation again.

We went through that same crap on a 760. Thing is it didn't have 3,000 hrs on it either. It was brand new. Can't imagine what it would have done to us at 3,000 hrs. If you get a rotary Massey it might be an actual upgrade. I still have a 1977 510 diesel a neighbor sold us. It doesn't have all that many hrs for its age. But I've played around with it enough to know it will not do the work a 9500 does on its worst day without something going wrong.

At least half the stuff that broke on you doesnt exist on a L2 Gleaner, and that is why we like them. If you can change a sealed bearing, you can fix a Gleaner.

That's why I keep the 7720 around. I had it out once when the 9500 was broke. You would be better off with another deere so you would not have to purchase another set of heads.

BTW if you don't mind me asking about you health issue you had a ways back, just curious if you found anything out.

My L3 had enough problems, but hung together enough to get things done on Wednesday evening. It was along, grueling harvest this year, have all the corn stalks to work up yet.

Tractor blew hyd oil out that same evening as wife was using it, and is sitting in the field, 17 degrees out and I just don't feel like trying anything with it for another day. Too cold to start it out in the field, too cold to pour hyd oil in, and too cold for me to look it,over to see the problem.....

Hope you dont do what i did. 2 sets of feeder house chains in 200acs a couple yrs back on 9600. Didnt change sprockets on top shaft they looked good 1st time round. Was never real happy n they would get out of line a bit every now n then 2nd time it broke top shaft an new set of chains. Think it had a floor in it by look of break. New shaft, sprockets and another new set of chains back in business luckily it never ate the chains either time

Still loosing weight. I'm down over 40 pounds now and relegated to only wearing overalls as waist pants don't fit anymore. 6'4" tall and down to around 150. Next week they are going to take out my gallbladder and do some exploratory work to see if there is anything else going on. They have done about every test known to man. Some days I can eat fairly normal. Some days I can eat a couple of soda crackers and that's it. Something is wrong there for sure.

I was going for the week of Thanksgiving because I knew harvest would be done and the bulls would all be in with the cattle and all cattle would be at their winter pastures. I'm really going to have to scramble to have harvest done by the 21st. I worked cattle all day so that will all be done while I am laid up. It misted on me all day. It will be a good three sunny days before I can get back in the field at this point.

It's definitely discouraging, but nothing they have done has revealed a malignancy they were sure they were after. I'm very fortunate.

Best of luck to you..both with the DR. and harvest. I got to shell corn yesterday but rain moving in this morning The 9500 made it all day with out breaking so it was a good day.
