1978 JD 4400 combine straw chopper question

My 1978 JD 4400 combine straw chopper bearings are sounding "noisy" or "dry sounding" when running at full speed. Both the bearings on each side still have the side covers on each of the bearings intact with no exposure of the rollers. In other words, they look okay for now. I was thinking of getting a grease needle to insert grease into each bearing but there is not enough clearance to do so. I've purchased new bearings (JD 9275) with lock collars (JD 9276). Here in Central Ohio not much favorable coming - don't know when I'll be in the fields. Would it be a good time to replace them now since they show no visual evidence of wearing out? Something tells me I should do so. The left side bearing doesn't appear to have that much difficulty to remove and reinstall. The right side bearing is a different story. How is the best way to pull the steel sheave off the shaft without distorting it and keeping run true? At this time I do not have any/all necessary pullers to do this. Any and all assistance is always appreciated.

If the bearings are faulty, they'll probably be hot to the touch when they're running.
When I replaced my chopper bearing, I put a gear puller on the pulley, put some tension on it, heated around the shaft with a torch and it popped loose. You may have to torch out the bearing, so have some water nearby because there might be debris behind the bearing that will burn

Hi Steve,my 4400 had noisy bearings too,i thought it was normal,it seemed to chop satisfactorily, just made lots of noise . Now i have a 6620 and the chopper and bearings are whisper quiet.
