JD 9500 vs 9400

The entire separating system is the same other than the JD 9400 has shorter straw walkers. The other major difference is the engines. The early ones had a JD 359 motor. The way JD drove the unloading system from that end of the motor stressed the crankshafts and they broke. I think they changed the motor in 1992. The later ones where pretty good machines. We sold a good many for the four row wide guys.

All what is below, but I'll add a couple of things. I don't believe the 9400 has the grain precleaner the 9500 does. And I think that ALL the 9400s had the 359, but the later ones had a different crankshaft to handle the load? My neighbor has one, he had his crankshaft replaced/updated a few years back.

Thanks everyone, this was very helpful. I have thought it would be fun to do some custom combining. This generation of machines seems pretty popular. Anyway, it will likely remain a thought for now unless my back improves.
