F3 unloading auger chain

Auger fold froze up today. Thought I had kept it lubed but I guess not good enough. With WD40, oil and the loader lifting, got it moving again. In working with it I noticed that the chain that runs it was quite loose. Like a link long on both ends. Never have paid much attention to it before cause it always worked. I know there is tighteners to adjust, but how tight should the chain be? Works good now with lube, but I'm sure it needs to be tighter than it is.

Be careful there, there are big ball bearings in the auger swivel, my advice would be to rebuild it before something worse happens. With the chain being loose I would say the bearings have came out.

After reading your reply, I went out and looked it over again. The swivel assembly seems to be centered and can see some of the bearings through the gap. And now the chain is nowhere near as loose as it was before. Looking further I noticed the chain is off the bottom roller guide. So that accounts for some of the loosness. Must have come off with strain of getting it moving again. And the oil dripping out is very rusty looking. Guess I was faithfully oiling the chain but not getting the oil in where it was needed. Thanks for your insight. Will keep a close watch on it
