At the time you can get a special the rotor and the servie are longer hydraulic system is different early combines had the IH motor in the later ones had a Cummins motor in it

My 1660 is a later one with Cummins 8.3. I don't remember if it was the very last 1660's, or the 1666 when they finally got smart and re-geared the main drive and slowed the engine down. They want my engine doing 2750 RPM no load, which is probably why it ventilated itself. I never run it that fast. The monitor beeps if it drops below 2450. I am pretty much able to keep it around 2500 working.

I would definitely go with the later machine.

1660 is supposed to run 2500 under load. But it doesn't need to run anywhere near 2750 no load to maintain 2500 under load. Manifold pressure will peak before engine RPM changes that much!

cross flow fan and longer sieves were a couple of things, a 1666 had the newer updates without all of the electric junk put on the 21 series and later models, get one with an afx rotor and you would have a nice combine
