6600 John Deere diesel dying

Need advice on what to check on a 6600 combine, diesel, started on my beans today, got 80 bushels in tank and she just slowed down and died. Checked power to electric fuel pump, it seems ok, tried to restart machine, started right up, revved up, and I went another 200 feet, engine slowed down and died. This went on for about a half hour as I limped back to yard, start up, run for a minute and die, restart easily, and goes another minute or so. When I got back to yard, I cleaned sediment bowl, and changed the fuel filter, makes no difference. I have fuel flow from electric pump thru the filter, and to the input of injector pump. Any ideas, could it be a problem with the mechanical fuel pump on the engine after the electric pump below the fuel tank?
Thanks for any new ideas.

Sounds like your injection pump has a bad dampening ring in it. I am assuming you have a Roosamaster injection pump??? Remove the fitting on the top of the pump that has the return line going to the tank. Look in that fitting real close. It has a glass bead check valve built into it. IF the dampening ring is failing you will find pieces of rubber stuck in this fitting. You can blow it out and it will run until more rubber plugs it again.

You will need to remove the injection pump and repair it.

He should also check for debris clogging the flow of fuel from the fitting in the tank to the fuel pump, a COMMON issue with these machines, especially after a "BLEM" has refueled it, then went back to combining without replacing the fuel cap.

Easy enough to check, loosen bleed plug at fuel filter with fuel pump running and verify there's a good steady flow of fuel. Or NOT!

thanks for all the replies, looks like it is going to rebuild shop tomorrow. Tried all the suggestions here and from JD forum looks like pump needs repair.
