massey 850 electrical and starting

still working on the new to me 850 massey combine. it seems hard to start after it sits for a while, half a day or so. started doing some diagnosing Saturday and noticed the fuel shut off in front of the injection pump would not have power till running. finally found in book it runs off oil pressure. when I go to start it, nothing in the cab powers up until after it's running. is that normal?
I did try pushing the override switch and that seemed to help it start quicker but book says should not have to do that unless moving off the road. I do have a one way check valve I want to put in and see if that helps some also.

My 850 Massey got hard to start and the lift pump on the engine has drain back valves in it and they weren't sealing and let fuel drain back to tank. Hope this helps

The override button puts power to the Murphy switch so you can restart the engine with no oil pressure. In a new engine with good batteries and starter the oil pressure will be high enough at cranking speed to let the Murphy switch turn the fuel on. Your combine engine isn't new and your batteries may not be new either so they don't spin the engine fast enough to get oil pressure right away. As long as you know that you have oil and that it will make pressure I'd go ahead and use that override switch. About as soon as the engine fires you will have oil pressure.
