John Deere 55 swaying side to side when separator is engaged

Is it normal for the whole combine to sway
side to side when you rev it up with the
separator engaged? This is with no feeder
house or head on it. I think it's from the
movement of the straw walkers but just
making sure. I was going to take the belt
off that drives the walkers and try it but
ran out of time last night.

Straw walkers reciprocate, front to back...I"d look for something else. Have you cleaned out the cyl...so there is no imbalance there, from one side or the other? Dust will collect on the back side of the cyl bars, and cause an imbalance.

The chopper is not on. We just put different rasp bars in it off our parts combine but we kept them in pairs. The swaying is not real bad . Just maybe an inch each way. The steering wheel doesn't shake like it has a vibration. I did notice that the wooden bearings on the walkers are pretty loose.

And if you ever run corn make sure the chopper is OFF. The book says you can just take the knives out and do it but we ruined the first chopper doing that. The cobs tore the bottom up. It was one that had 28 bolts to hold it on. Later they came out with the one that was held on with 4 bolts and that is what we got to replace it but also had to replace the entire rear hood. There is something out of balance to make it do that. Could even be a bent fill auger in the grain tank. Tailings auger either at back end or cylinder or clean grain at back end.

We had made a cover that goes under the clean grain auger and it was rubbing on the auger. We moved the cover down slightly and it is better now. I think the auger was trying to push itself sideways and then it would snap back every time it turned causing the combine to sway a little.
