Gleaner M2 chaffer / Sieve

Can someone explain the chaffer and the sieve on my M2 combine...
It came with another Sieve?? I think it has the long finger one in it now. Under both is a perforated screen.
Do I adjust the long finger sieve the same as if it had the short finger one in it.
I'm cutting soybeans.

I read in the manual that there in an adjustment to the front of the sieve and or chaffer.. like a slide or something from the outside of the combine.

I'm hoping to run some beans with this new to me machine this weeks and am finishing up trying to set it up.

Thanks!!

The top one is called the chaffer...it comes in short round ends, and I believe long rounds, as well as long square ends. The short round end is for oats, wheat, etc., but can be used for corn/soy- it"s just that the long tooth has more capacity in corn/soy. Long tooth is for corn/soybeans. The one below is called the sieve. Both are adjusted at the rear, with adjusting handles. The chaffer has two, so the front can be adjusted differently than the rear. Generally the front section is set a bit more open than the main part of the chaffer. The perforated screen underneath lets dirt fall through to the ground. There is a solid steel sheet that can be mounted over it to close it off.

Doesn't the normal Chaffer have a main body, most of it, on one adjuster, and just the last few inches is on another adjuster? You set the main body one, and the last few inches one gets set open a bit more in some crops to allow unthrashed material to get back to the front of the combine?

Many people modified their Chaffer to have a small front section on its own controls and you can open that a bit more to gain capacity, as that is where all the overload of all grain falls on it. As you suggest?

I really dislike the perforated screen on the bottom of the pan, but we don't get discounts here for a few weed seeds. I would rather dump those weed seeds in the wagon and get paid for them, than to leave the screens open and dump all those weed seeds back in my field..... depends on your market tho I'm sure.

When new if it was a corn -bean machine came wit 2 chaffers, along and a short tooth, I prefered the short tooth in beans, but the long will work. Chaffers slide in a channel and are always the same position, the sieve was adjustable in the front, there is a strap on the side of the shoe, has 2 bolt slots, you want it in the lower one. The perferations under the shoe let dirt and other fines out, there should be a flat sheet to cover them, slots on the side of the shoe and a lip on the back, that use 4 bolts to hold it in, you can run with or without the plate in corn or beans, must be in for oats.
