Fox 3000 with kernel processor

In 1997, we wanted to try kernel processing- there was a lot of good data behind it at the time (still is!) and it made financial sense. The trouble was, there were NO pull type machines at the time, and a
self propelled was way out of the budget.

So my uncle decided to build one. We bought a new silage style mill from Automatic, and fastened it to a FOx 3000, which was our chopper at the time.

We used this rig from '97 till 2002 to chop corn silage, and then used it in later years to process other stuff (which is why it has a spout extention and a hopper attached). It was used with both a 2 and 3
row head.

That fall, the first commercial pull type with a processor was introduced, a Gehl 1265. There were about a dozen units put out, and it went into full production the following year as the 1275.
Interestingly enough, their work was done at the same time, 30 miles away in West Bend, WI, and they also used a similar Automatic mill. A local salesman (now deceased) said, "Looks like somebody was in
somebody else's shop... and I know they wouldn't let you in their's!" The designs were very similar, likely because we used the same mill manufacturer for a starting point.

In 2003, we purchased a Gehl 1285 to replace the Fox, and the Fox got little use afterward.

Yesterday I was near it in the shed and had my phone, so I took a few pictures. Please excuse the raccoon droppings!

Hope you enjoy.

That is pretty cool!

Out of curiosity, is the mill like a Horning KP roll, or is it more like a hammer-mill style?

Wish that would fit on a SP Fox - not enough room by the looks of it.

I see that you too, have some raccoons. They are like oats up here.
