Rotary Reaper Coming Back To Kansas

A Rotary Reaper built by Curtis Baldwin in the Ward factory in Ottawa Kansas is coming back to Kansas. I bought the Rotary Reaper and a 1927 Fordson mounted Gleaner at the Culbertson, Montana auction Saturday.

(quoted from post at 05:40:11 09/27/17) Rotary...as in same basic design as the Gleaners today?

Not this model. Everything on this machine is rotary. Overshot cylinder. No straw walkers only rotary tumblers. However Curtis Baldwin did have a patent on a modern style rotor under this company in 1936 but to my knowledge only engineering prototypes were built and tested on the Baldwin farm in Nebraska. I have copies of the patent and the design is identical to what is used today in axial machines.

It sounds like a great buy. I never heard about this design. Please take some pictures when you go and get the machine.

I'm not to far from Ottawa KS but I don't remember hearing
anything about Ward Factory. Interesting to see though.

They owned the factory where the Ottawa engines were built. Curtis Baldwin contracted with them to build several styles of combines for him in the 1930's and early 1940's

Ed,you made some great purchases there..I would have loved to have been at that auction but it was over 1100 miles for me..

1157 miles for me. I wouldn't have gone that far except for the Rotary Reaper or maybe a Aero combine. I'm glad the trip is over and I'm back in my own bed again.
