Could someone please explain the gleaner grain head models to me.
For combine models F,M,L to the F3,M3,L3...
What models are black grain heads?

Thanks

The early models that came with the F, M, L series were pretty single minded not adaptable to other size machines. At least in the F series.

Thrn thry put adjustable hooks on them so they would fit 2 different machines.

Then with the x3 models at least, the newest heads were universal, but they needed a pretty extensive kit to adapt the throat to the different models.

Often the M and L series are pretty easily adaptable between heads, move bottom hooks over, 4 bolts. The header drives got universal between the M and L, the F is set up different on the drives.

The F series is so much different the heads are more convertible to a G machine than a bigger newer one. I'd say the F is going to be substantially different than the M and L heads.

Then you run into hyd and electrical hookups, I could run an old mechanical orange head on my newest F3, but I couldn't run the new F3 head on the old F as there is no place to hook the hyd hose and no place to plug the wires..... I suspect the same on all letter series?

I've run Gleaners since 1980, F, F2 short, F3, F3, M3, L3, and to be honest I still don't understand all the different combinations of heads out there.....

Hope others give better info.

Paul
