this combine was in farm auction in May,,.. it was way back hi and dry in the barn.. the auctioneer was too lazy to drag it out,he actually auctioned it from 500 feet away after selling the super 90 and the 35 and 165 Masseys .I bought it and 2 row wide corn head and a 33 corn head set to 30 inch rows . the widow Lady that owned the place was Ok with letting me tinker with the 300 in the barn to get it running .. had it running on the 3rd visit //
after 70 days ,. and about 7 different stop ins tinkering for 15 minutes some days and 5 hours another .a new starter , points , plugs ,3 fan belts and a lot of wd 40 and Lucas Do gooder oils.. i knew the combine had never seen the action it was built to do .very low hours .no boo-boos or battle scars, and a wonderful 6ft catwalk along behind the cab .. the feeder house steel has a lot of red paint .. the floor mat is perfect .the lites work .about 5 gallon sour gas in the tank , so i strapped a 5 gallon can on the side and pumped fuel from it ..This 300 Combine is a 25 yr old time capsule
anyway , i started this sleeping lady up .. she run so smooth ,. eased the thresher in gear,. and she rattled out a bunch of ancient dust,. but there again it ran out smooth ,. yesterday we loaded the 2 row headon a trailer ,and broke a fan belt..
today i put anew fan belt on her, pikt up the 3 row head ,. topped off the 5 gallon can and took off down the road about 15 miles to my home ..the variable speed worx great , the governor was ready and willing on the hills as needed.
around mile 4 ,i heard a belt coming apart under my seat ,Uh -OHH. traction belt was dissentigrating .. strangely it never sliped goin up and down the hills.. i was begining to believe it would hold together and make it to my farm .. as i topped the last hill and my farm drive came in site a quarter mile away, the belt desentigrated .. we had to pull the 300 the last 1/4 mile to the barn ,,But She Is Home ,.
