Wide jd chopper head to a narrow head

I saw a ad for a wide John Deere chopper head that the dealer would cut down to a narrow row head
Has any one ever done this if so how involved is it they told me it would take a half day to get it ready to go to the field

A local shop has done several. You can tell it has been cut but they seem to work ok. If you want a good chopper head consider a New Holland 824 on your Deere chopper. A farmer a few miles from me has one on his 3950 Deere chopper and it works great. Better than the green Deere head I have on my 3940. Tom

Actually it was a common practice in the 70's. several firms(mostly local 'blacksmiths') did this. When farmers were changing over to 30" from 38",cheaper to do that than buy a new header
