Gleaner M3 won't move

Time to get the combine ready for wheat harvest which is about 2 weeks away. Got it running but would not move and had no hydraulic functions. Shut it down, checked wiring and hydraulics, found the reservoir empty. The combine had a very slow leak from the hydro input block just behind the drive pulley last year, and has apparently lost all the hydro fluid from this leak...where the hydro control cable goes into the hydrostatic system. No large amount of oil apparent, so it must have evaporated as fast as it leaked over the winter. Parts manual does not give a real clear breakdown of the input control where it goes into the block. Is there anything specific I should be aware of before replacing a leaking oil seal or other ring? Thanks, Ben

I'm not familiar with the M series, but the smaller ones have separate hydraulic systems, one for the hydro, one for other hydraulic functions. Do the M's use something different? And I'm pretty sure oil doesn't evaporate. Was it on dirt floor or concrete?

A small hydraulic pump supplies pressure to all hydraulics except the hydro, but they
use the same reservoir. It was on a gravel floor so it could have soaked away over
the winter. Ben

what serial number is the machine? Late M3s had the Dennison Gold Cup 7.25x 7.25 hydro. the 78 to early 84 machines ran the Dynapower 6x6.

On the dynapower 6x6 there is a small seal that can be changed, its available through Agco, and is frankly not bad on pricing, 5-6 bucks or so.

Got the seal today...5 bucks. Just hope we can save the gasket if we have to pull the block from the main body....it's almost 100 dollars! Ben 1987 M3
