Small combine for rye

I know that rye can be a problem to harvest but am wondering what combine you would recommend for low acerage ( 2 - 5).
I usually see some Gleaner K2 packages for sale every year. Would these work?

I would say look for one that had the narrowest head avaible as rye has a lot of straw and if it goes down from the weather then you will have to put all the straw thru the machine Not like topping good standing wheat that you could use a wide head for. I think any combine could handle rye. Neighbor years ago used a AC 60 but he pulled it with a Wards tractor that had a very slow low gear but no live pto. Used the Wards because of the slow ground speed as the Farmall M was just too fast for the volume of straw.

A K2 or even a F2 would make a good machine for you. Dad had a few different Gleaner machines E,E3 and an F before he went to Deere 3300-4400 machines. The Gleaner was a very easy machine to service and repair compared to the Deere. We did find a little less grain loss with the Deere machines as they had more cleaning area. We cut about 50 acres of rye a year with a 105 Deere. Rye is not much fun to cut as it has very long straw and often goes down. The worst is when about half is down as when you have the reel down raking it off the ground the tall still standing part will want to wrap on the reel. Tom

The guy that I do custom farming for had me plant rye one year. After fighting with the harvest I told him-- if you ever have me plant rye again you can find someone else to do your farming.
