Melroe 351 pickup head. What combine does this fit?

I bought this pickup head to adapt to a Gleaner. I was told it fit a Uni. The end bracket for the auger had a John Deere casting, but it is an inch too narrow and a couple inches too short as compared to a 220 flex head that was sitting right next to it. Any ideas?

No, it has a slot less than in inch wide, not a half pipe two inches wide. I agree that it looks like a deere attachment. Did really early quick tatch heads have a piece of flat iron instead of the pipe?

Gleaner heads are pretty cheap...I"d find a Gleaner grain head and mount the Melroe on it. Simpler than making an adapter for what you have.

I took it over to a neighbor who has a john deere 4420. It's a 1/4" too narrow to fit on his combine. I wonder if an earlier Deere had a slightly narrower head attachment and this one was built to fit one specific combine. We're gonna adapt it to fit his combine and I'm gonna keep looking for another pickup head that fits directly on my M2

considering how rare uni heads are, it would warm a Uni collector's heart if you didnt butcher it to fit a JD.

JD and Gleaner dummy heads are quite plentiful.

Where are you guys located? we have a few Gleaner heads.

What crops will you be harvesting with it?

Too late, we made it fit the neighbor's John Deere 4420 last night. I'm gonna buy a Bish adapter and use it on my M2.

It was a homemade unit. We only had to move the side brackets out a 1/2" and cut some slots into the top side for the tabs on top of the 4420's feederhouse.

Unis were very common around here. Seems about everyone had one for chopping. Ear corn was pretty much done by the time I was growing up, but several were used for ear picking as well. I don't even know if it was made for a uni, just the previous owner's guess.
