Second day - combine breaks!

We've had so much rain here lately. I started here at the home place as the weeds were starting to pop through, and the pigweed is putting on pressure. I ran one day with no issues. The wheat is so-so. I started the second day in the worst part of the field with the intention of burying that load at the bottom of the grain truck. I went to unload and started shearing bolts on the 9500. I've broken the drive chain but never sheared the bolt on the main belt drive. It turns out that with the weight of the wheat and "foreign material" the vertical unloading auger flighting collapsed. Last year I replaced the bin auger as the flighting was bad. I should have realized the unloading auger flighting would be just as bad as they handle as much grain. My fault.

Now every part is on a rush from Deere. Rain is coming in the forecast and I have many days to go. If they can't get the good tech I want out here to the farm to put it in I am going to do it myself. I'm not going to send it to town so they can "work it in" - I won't see my combine for a week. Such is harvest, huh?!

I feel for you. Reminds me of my wheat harvest days trying to keep 8 combines going.

Here we go, another harvest story LOL; I got up at 4:00 in the morning here in Iowa, went to Omaha, caught a plane to Idaho falls to catch up with the combine crew. They had left a pickup at the airport, so I got in the pickup half sick from rough air between Boise and Idaho Falls, drove 30 miles to the field they were in and immediately faced a combine with a broken rotor belt, fixed that and replaced an alternator, I forget what the third breakdown was but I finally got to the motel at 2:00 the next morning. That's 22 hours without sleep. Got back up at 6:00, ate breakfast and was back in the field servicing combines. The crew told me nothing broke down till I arrived and jinxed them. LOL. At my age now I could never do that but I sure would like to go back out there just to be there.

That's why I keep my old 7720 around. I don't know how may times that old girl has had to fill in for the 9500 or 9510. To be honest it does a better job in beans just not as comfy to ride in.
