Opinions on Gleaner F3 Gear

Im looking at a very sharp F3 Gleaner. Its exactly what I want but was disappointed to find out it is a gear and not a hydro. Has anyone ran one much? We have our Ks that of course have gear transmissions, my complaint about those is they don't go slow enough at times, the owner of this machine says he does most of his combining in 2nd gear so that would solve that problem.

Anybody have any input or experience?

Thanks

With the old E we always used 2nd gear. With the F2 I had, in good crops, 2nd was too fast. Going slow enough over all was not an issue, as we never went as slow as possible. 1st gear, with the variable speed towards the higher end, turned out to be the right speed. The annoying thing then is, when you go to back up/maneuver to dump, if you don't take time to slow the variable speed down, it's way too fast for reverse.

IIRC The last year F2 and all F3 gear drives had a 5 speed similar to the M and L series gear drives, so that should give a nice low first gear.

I really love hydro, so I personally would rather have a F2 Hydro over a F3 Gear drive, but that is my personal preference.

Thanks guys.

Im thinking that I am going to purchase it. It has everything else I want and need and is in above average condition and the price is where I can afford it. Just going to have to learn to live with it I guess!
