1680 combine none of hydraulics work

I bought a 1680 combine with a Cummins and got it home and it started acting up. Rotor, feeder wudnt come on every time and unloading auger wouldn't swing out. And now none of works at all. I've checked the valve stack and the fluid and the wiring best I could. The relays on right side of cab under fuse panel is not getting fire when nothing works. Please anybody dealt with this. I'm needing to start picking wheat and can't figure it out

Check to make sure it has a good ground. There is a oil preasure switch on the side of the engine check to see if the wire didn't come loose it gives power to the combine when the oil preasure comes up.

I had read about the oil pressure switch. I ordered a new one and checked the one on combine. It's plugged up so going to change it out when I get new one and see if it helps. As far as the ground I'm trying to find all grounds to make sure

I had problems like that on my first 1680 and I chased the wiring on mine and replaced all kinds of stuff trying to work it out over a few years. I did not have a lot of luck and ended up running new wires for a lot of it one year and seemed to have it worked out then later that year running corn it thru the number 5 rod and it caught fire and burned to the back half to the ground. that was on a 1986 model with the DT-466 the one I have now is a 1992 model with the 8.3 like you have. when I was trouble shooting I made up a set of wires with a spare 12 volt battery and used it to test components and end up finding it was in the wires. open up your side panels see if you had a lot of mice on the wires that was what started my problems. I have my email open if I can help I will as it gets frustrating or at least it did for me.

IDK about IH, but on my Gleaner M2, with electric over hyd, if the main hyd solenoid, which feeds about 8-10 others, does not have ground, none of them on the hyd stack will work. Ground is always the first thing to check on electrical systems.

I didn't realize the DT 466 suffered the same fate as my 8.3, and others. What were the morons who designed these machines thinking when they have a heavy diesel engine running 2750 RPM high idle no load?

thanks for all the help guys. It's had mice problems before I got it. I've done fixed some wires thinking it was my problem but no luck. When I get home today I'm going to start running more wires looking and checking grounds.

The 1660 with the IH engine has an oil pressure sending unit on the right side of the
engine. Yours likely does also. This will lockout your hydraulics if it has failed
or if there is bad pressure. I assume your oil pressure gauge and light are
indicating good pressure? If so, likely the other one is bad or not hooked up
properly. The diesel mechanic who rebuilt my engine did not know how to hook up the
unit...I had to do it. Seriously...make darn sure you have oil pressure. Expensive
mistake.

I replaced the oil sending switch today and still nothing. The oil pressure and temp gauge was working but I noticed the other day they had stopped working too

Well, first of all you need to make sure you have oil pressure for real. I had a similar story a couple years back which I did not take as seriously as I should have. When I was writing the check for the repair it was not quite so lightly. Simple, inexpensive tool from Harbor Freight is all it takes.

If it is like the IH engine on this series combine, those wires are in the same harness. You might want to get your meter out and check continuity. Service manuals come very dear for the 1600 combines but a good CIH dealer can copy the schematics for you. At first it looks like a monkey puzzle but there are relays and such in a panel over the right front wheel...with a little patience you can find the right wires and test to see that they are intact and connected by using the meter. Tracing wires their whole length is problematic because they are not visible...meter on each end is fool proof. OR, if you can find the connection up at the cab you can run a jumper and see if that makes the hydraulics come to life. More than one sending unit failing would tend to make me think a problem with the harness and my first suspect would be rodents. Have at it! You MUST have gauges! Not an option!

As I recall there are 2 switches on the dt466 ih engine-1 for the gauge and 1 for the hydraulics.BUT before I'd change ANY electrical part,I would check voltage and continuity. As Dave says get a diagram and multimeter.Mark

Thanks guys for all the help. I finally found it after a couple of days checking wires and switches and grounds. It was a switch on the right side of cab. It had went bad. Something so simple was so hard to find
