Combine sold cheap

I was at my uncle's sale this Saturday in southern Kansas. He had a 1460 IH with 3000 hours on it in VERY nice condition. It sold with the flex head and cart. The engine had been rebuilt 8 years ago after he got it hot and he only farmed 60 acres the past few years. It sold for $2200. I could have about died, having known the machine and the care he took with it. If I farmed closer to him I would have bought it just as a backup machine. It really was a crying shame.

I did bring home his 1954 Chevy grain truck which wasn't in the plans at all. It has not a scratch on it and not a speck of rust. The old 235 purrs right along and she drove up the ramps onto the deckover semi trailer. $2000. I couldn't resist. I hate that. Especially since I bought another grain truck off his farm back in November, but that one had been grandpa's before that. You don't find too many 1935's that have been in the family that long.

The 40 foot trailer was full or I would have brought home his old Minnie Mo. I'm still kicking myself about it.

auctions are very sad ,, especially family auctions,. glad you got a trailer load ,,. how i wish I could find a 1460 around here in that condition for that price ,,. it would cost over a 1000 to haul the 1460 here to Louisville area

That might be a little low but I have seen fully functional 1680s go for low as $5,000. Machines of that vintage just aren't worth much anymore.

That was cheap for a low hour 1460 IH...It would have been a 5-7K combine in my area.....What did the GB MM sell for?

Sad indeed. At my parent's retirement auction in 1969 in ND, their Case 830 diesel standard tractor sold for $1460. I was living and working in PA at the time and couldn't attend the auction. Actually wasn't so interested in tractors then. That tractor sold new in 1962 for $6280 and was in good shape for 7 years old.
SAD INDEED !!

$750 if I remember right. And it was a good runner. If I hadn't already bought the truck and needed the long feed bunks it would have come home with me. I'm still mad I didn't just buy it and make another trip. Oh well, I don't need another old tractor around here. Of course, I don't need another straight truck, either!

agreed on all points ,,. serveral unknowns , 1st of all a guyhas to know about the auction and have a bidder there , or online with the auction ,,./. the 1000 is a estimate ,, gotta be 700miles . Kansas is a long ways from Louisville ky ,,. I really think it would take a real good friend to make that trip ,..

I know it seems low but the older machines are dead in my area, in Central KS. Two years ago at my farm sale I sold a 1993 JD 7720 with 24' rigid head. 2400 hours in excellent condition for $6400.00. My pride and joy 6600 with 3000 hours and 20 foot rigid head for $2500.00. Both had never sat out a night probably in their lives. Then, the Auctioneer turned around and sold the 20' Flex head for $2000.00. The flex head was worn clear out when I bought it a few years earlier for $800.00. Go figure.
