Gleaner l3 with 4 row narrow

Why don't you expand your choices and look for a red one or even a green one. Probably be a happier operator too.

A four row at 30 inches leaves 150 inches between the rows. If your combines overall width is 140 inches or less, it would work under ideal conditions. My M3 with a 4 row narrow has just enough clearance at about 10 inches on each side. An L3 would be wider, depending on tire size and rim offset. Ben

My ladder will touch a few stalks with a 6-30 head on an L3. I don't think a 4-30 would fit.

I did see a 4-30 orange head set up for an M series, it had shields on to guide rows around the tires. An L3 is set up to straddle 4 rows, the M3 would drive down on 4 rows. I think 4 row heads are real rare tho with the M/L mounts?

Don't think there would be good results. Would work with the M series, but L is mighty wide.

My M3 handles 6-30 pretty good. The L3 does real good with 6-30. It was originally an 8 row machine, so should do fine with an 8 row head.

The issue might be yields these days. The 200bu hopper on the L3 does get full pretty fast if you can grow high yielding corn these days. In an average year I can make a round with the 6-30 head, in a good year the hopper fills up first. Hard to complain about good yields, but things slow way down when you unload at both ends or have to pull out and drive a short distance to the end, come back and catch the short rows you leave.

My eternal problem as I went from an F with 4-38 and dads yields of 100bu corn, worked great, the F3 with 4-38 the hopper got too full with better fertilizer and seed; then the M3 got too full with 6-30 and better drainage/tile; now the L3 with 6-30 gets too full with grid fertilizing and some lucky weather.

As a 1 person operation I bog down when I can't make a full round harvesting. Maybe 8 rows would be better; I could for sure dump at each end and have a somewhat full hopper!

Back in '88 the bad drought year here I recall making 6 rounds in a corn field with the F and 4-38 header. Went and unloaded not because the hopper was full, but because the truck was getting so far away.... Man that was a tough year.

I'm in lower southeast Michigan and a friend of mine has a 8 row black head for sale. Not sure where you a located if interested you can give me a call 734-915-2543 Matt

My old F2 w/430 really choked on 200 bu corn. Now that I can hold 250 bu with a 6 row machine, I wouldn't be happy with any less capacity. I don't consider my fields all that big either.

Once a long field is split, I"ve often spotted a wagon in the middle to dump some to finish the round. Or dump half-way down, then you have room to do the 3/4 round left. Beats having to get a wagon from the far end of the field.

23.1 x 30, set in or narrow.Does drive on top of the outside harvested rows in 30 inch rows. Ben

Coming from someone who has had way too much seat time in JDs and IHs working for other people, he is already in heaven, no use changing. :)

Gleaner had a 90s cab on a 80s combine, very advanced for the era, and very comfortable.
