potentiometer?

On my 1020 head it's mounted up on the back, left side of the header, next to the feeder house. There's a cable which comes up from the mechanism under the header to a lever on the "pot" so that mechanical motion is turned into an electrical signal. A pigtail from the "pot" is plugged into a receptacle on the combine.

Yes, I believe you spelled it correctly.

I don't grow beans. I used the HHC function for the first time this year on drought shortened oats. It worked great, once I got the bugs worked out. I made sure the mechanism and cable were free before heading to the field. But the system worked backwards! I flipped the "pot" over, and all was well. Except that, the header operator manual has a nice diagram of how everything is oriented, and the pot didn't agree. Later, working on the combine, I found wires switched where they had been repaired along the feeder house.

Drought shortened oats? Now there is a theme for 2016! I had 4-5' corn, 12" beans where they got tall...some a lot less. If I never see another year like that it will be way too soon! I did have some nice stands of crab grass, velvet leaf (now there is a fun one to kill!), lambs quarter, ragweed, foxtail...

Appreciate the info! I supected it had to do with HHC. The IH 1020 header I was looking at turned out to be a lot further away than I suspected, so have to let it pass. I want to replace my 820 head. I repaired the wobble box so the next guy who owns it can start clean but I don't want to convert it to work with the 1660. Seems easier to get a newer head. Thanks again!

there is an update to hhc potentiometer to change it from the cable to a rod. well worth the upgrade. there is a also a harness adapter that has a resistor in it to help with "boucning"
of the head. mine use to bounce like a bucking bronco till I did
these up grades.
