Don't know about Michigan, but here in Ontario, some guys run thousands of acres with 3 machines. Ben

Theres farmers in my area that run as much as 5000-6000 acres per year thru a combine..Fall harvest often starts in mid-late August so that gives you 3 months plus....One puts 10,000 acres plus thru 2 combines..

For a BTO the need for $3/4 to $1.5 million in combines has more to do with incentives and the advice of his tax professinal than for the actual need of the combines to harvest crop. Just my humble opinion.

You'd have to be over 5000 acres to need 2 machines.

A big one and a grain cart and several semis can move a lot of acres, the key is to never have the combine sitting still and to never own it, just rotate the lease before the warranty expires.

It depends on the crop. I run 1000 acres through my 1995 9500 Deere. With a crop like milo or beans you can go quick assuming there are no crop issues. It takes me a couple of weeks if it's all in beans, but there's no need for a bigger or newer combine. I could have a header bigger than 22 foot, but the shed doors are that size and so are the bridges. It's just not worth removing the header to me. I've never had a corn head on it or run corn. With our dirt and yields every corn farmer here loses money just turning the key.

Neighbor farms about 3500 acres with one combine, do not know where breakpoint would be, but it is only money.

Your lucky we can not get a 20' down the road here. A 925 works well on a 9500. We run a 925F on the 9510 and the 920 full finger on the 7720 or 9500. Have had the 925 on the 7720 but sure gives the combine a work out.
