I will have to dig for the pic I took of this combine years ago when I cut wheat in monument.

That isn't too terribly far away from me and a canvas feed head to boot! There is quite a bit of other cool stuff from the same seller.

A bit off topic but didn't you haul most of your combines out of Kansas with a 7.3 idi? How did it handle something like the 21?

I can't see a lift wheel for the header, so that one must have the optional electric header lift. Sometimes an operator would toggle the electric lift too many times during the day and end the day with a dead battery.

The 7.3 IDI didn't handle it..The only way you saw 5th gear was if there was no wind
at all or the wind was behind you...I've been in 3rd gear when driving in to a 25 mph
wind..Even my 460 gas burners struggle in 5th gear on a windy day..When I recently
hauled my T Gleaner home from Kansas I took the back roads at 40-45 mph in
4th gear and got decent mileage..5th gear worked it to death..

If I remember right we used to pass by Monument on our way to Sharon Springs and Weskan. Real open country, I always got direction turned out there.

Damn! I was hoping you wouldn't see that combine until AFTER the auction. I've got it on my watch list. Will try to bring it home. I've got a brand new set of canvas for it.

Well I struck out. Had a meeting when the auction closed. It brought $3,850
Just not enough Wheat bushels on this farm this year at $3 per bushel for me. I think the buyer has posted a couple of post above this one. Am I correct MasseyPride?

No, 1923 Gleaner, it wasn't me. I would have loved to buy that rare of a combine. I "keep my hands in my pockets" on this sale. I knew if I started it would be hard to let go. I was having "flash backs" to the Kimball, Nebraska auction where Blaine set me home with "my tail between my legs" on the Massey Harris 21 combine at that auction. There must be a new player in the hunt for rare combines. I agree with you 100% on $3 wheat, it doesn't leave much available money for fueling the hobby.

I do have some questions about the canvas you have. I wondering if they're OEM or did you have them made or bought through some other business. I want to buy or build another set for my MH21, but I want to keep the originals intact. So, I going to have to come up with a source or build the necessary stainless components. I feel confident I can make the canvas and wood slats. I'm not sure about stainless pieces as it might cost some bucks having them custom built. Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

What state did it go to? I'm not registered with Big Iron so I can't see any of the results...

The buyer is a Kansas person but I don't know who.

Masseypride: I got the canvas set from an old Massey dealer. They are wrapped in paper. I don't know if he got his inventory from a jobber or not. I'll check them out when I'm in that shed sometime.

back to the 21a Massey, I have never seen one that is galvanized metal, but I came across one about ten or so years ago that was painted yellow. At first I thought it had been repainted, but after checking all the spots that likely would not have been repainted yellow, and with no sign of red paint anywhere I figured that was the original color. Has anyone else seen a yellow one? I am going to have to go back out to that abandoned farm one of these snow free days and look at it again. Maybe try to pick up if I can find an owner, would be cool at a threshing show.

1923 Gleaner,

I wanted to see if you were willing to sell the canvas you have for the Massey combine. You can contact me by e-mail if you would like. Perhaps, I have something you might want or need for one of your combines.

Thanks

Masseypride
