I just upgraded to a 2 row narrow new idea picker and was using it today and the head kept filling with stalk tops. I was wondering do my rolls need splattered with a welder or what? It wasn't doing it before it got cold.

The nature of the beast, start early in the morning and then you can drive faster. When Things get dry then slow down.

I had to do the welding on my rolls. Made a big difference. This might sound silly to you but next year you might want to ask your seed man if they have a corn number that works better with a picker. Pioneer used to have some numbers that did. Been there Good luck. Tom.

There is a paddle type beater that can be mounted in the first elevator area to help the tops move on through.

Like others have said, though, it's just the nature of the beast in frozen or real dry stalks.

Think there is a place to put a paddle right above the conveyor chain. It consists of a shaft, two bearings,a gear and the rubber paddle. This helps move the stalks up the conveyor to be separated out the back. If you have a owners manual it might show this option.

Like stated before you might have to be running it early in the morning. But, I had this problem last year, found the rolls had moved apart in the front of the rolls. Check that adjustment out underneath the front of the rolls.

As others say, the paddle above the elevator going up.....

The wide row had a wider elevator conveyer going up from the rolls. This handled the broken stalks better.

The narrow row got a narrower elevator, and then the stalks built up instead of getting carried along up.
