Massey 510 Header will not lift

I have a 510 disel combine was working great until my son who was riding with me pulled the auger swing leaver for me and when he let it go it stuck goin in. I didn't notice it right away and ran the machine for 15 min or so until I smelled the Hydroloc fluid was super hot the same time when I moved the header valve it went down and did not come back up. The auger valve still moves but makes more noise the steering works fine and variable speed still works fine. It also strangely will start thrashing without engaging the leaver when I throttle the machine up.I have installed new pump and auger valve in tank still no better any help would be greatly appreciated

It's been a LONG time since I've worked on one of those, I wonder if a plastic "load check valve" in the header and reel valve block could have melted/stuck or come apart and wedged somewhere in is stopping the low of oil???

I had a 760 once that had a relief valve that went bad it was in the same group as the header real and variable speed valves. disassemble your main valve and see if those plastic poppets are ok and have that relief valve checked at a hydraulic service place

Right on the money took the valve apart and the plastic popet for the relief valve is melted blocking the hole. Thanks

Does anyone know where to oder a new check valve on the Internet I'm not having any luck finding one

Hmmmm....wonder if MF used similar/same valve as like maybe a John Deere combine? Might go to the local house of Deere and see if they have poppets for maybe a 6600/6620 header/reel valve....

Just a thought..I have no idea if the valves are same manufacturer...and I do know the JD valves have plastic poppets that melt

Thanks for posting back and letting us know what you found, not everyone takes the time to do that and we never know if the problem was solved, or not!

As to the plastic poppets, have you tried AGCO Parts on-line to look up a part number, a GOOGLE search of the part # might turn something up, or at least you'd have a number for a dealer to check availability through AGCO.

As the other poster said, mite be worth checking at DEERE.

Also, if you can identify the valve, check with a local hydraulics shop, or try Baum Hydraulics in Omaha.

If I remember correctly, from 30 or 40 years ago when I OH'ed similar valves from combines or windrowers, there were at lest two similar poppets used, looked the same, but there was a difference in the length of the steel pin.

I had a parts drawer with some opened/partially used repair kits, and more than once repaired a machine that leaked down slowly without buying another kit. Shop burned down this time in 1983, and I lost them and haven't had to deal with any of those valves since, so I no longer have and spare parts.

Here's what a GREEN "6600" used, poppet is Key # 17, part # AN30940, a little over $20 @ the DEERE dealership.

Wonder if the Massey version is the same or similar?

Yep, when my family used to custom harvest, we keep two or three of those plastic poppet in the ashtray of the combine. We also keep a pig tail looking tool to remove the poppet. Fairly easily job to fix and real common problem. You have to make sure you manually close the unloading auger and shut it off. The valve will stick and super heat the hydraulic oil. A Massey dealer should have the poppets in stock. If they do not they can search and find out what dealers do have one.
