IH 1660 - Noise from separator

No way am I getting done without some type of problem. Only about 300 bushel left out there and I get to the end of a row, raise the head to turn and get this fairly loud rumble from behind me. Pretty quick I narrowed it down...not the engine and not the feeder, it's only there when the separator is running. Drove up to the road and dumped the corn on board then into the shed. Pulled the two access panels on the side and cannot see anything. Started it again and turned the separator on and off quick to make sure I had the right thing...still doing it. So this is a new one to me. It does not seem to change or want to clear. Not enough crop to jam it up. Any ideas? I left it in the shed and took the corn to the elevator and then home. Weather took a dump on me so I will head back out there tomorrow.

Something getting ready to enter the rotor? Chunk of wood or a rock ?

I've seen wood get wedged in some pretty strange places. Drop the door under the feeder then the top front access plate on the rotor and have a look-see.

I will second checking the rotor for something stuck in it. I have seen limbs or roots get inside and make one heck of a noise. Dry wood will travel up the feeder house with corn. Rocks usually are too heavy to get carried along.

Check the rotor friend had one it started to bang found a 1/2 rod about 4" long in the rotor didn't know how it got there.

Our 5088 did something similar this year. It was a bad thrust bearing in the rotor speed adjustment mechanism. Does your machine have a rock trap? If so there could be a rock or something else in there hitting the beater. I would check every thing else suggested here also.

Check the rotor drive belt and the separator drive belt. If they start to come apart they will really rumble before they blow up. Don't ask me how I know.LOL!!
