Claas 228 with Tracks

Does anyone own or know of a Claas 228 with Rubber Tracks,we have a Claas 228 with rubber tires,but have never been around one with tracks, we have some real wet muck soil and are having problems getting across it, I would like to know if these machines will go across extrmelly wet soil,if anyone would have experence with one of these machine or know of someone who does please post message.

Several years ago a group of guys in my area had one. Not sure if it was the same model but it only had tracks no wheels. What they used it for was combining several hunderads of acres that they intentionally flooded for duck and goose hunting. They had a certain day that they always opened the flood gates, and then would combine throught the fall and winter after it was flooded. Real mess. I always thought that there was a better way but these guys had more money than sense

Might be easier to find a lexion 465, it will have tracks and rear wheel drive from the factory, has walkers though not as system.
I did see a 116 for sale on tracks last year I think in Pennsylvania...

Thanks for responding, yes this would be the same model, Claas was the only Manufacturer that ever made a full length track machine with no rear wheels, would there be any possibly way you could inquire to see if they still have the machine or if they know where it went, would like to drive and look at it, what state was it located in. we would really appreciate if you could make an effort to check into this for us,as we have not been able to find one anywhere to look at.

Thanks

it was in south central Illinois. I would ask my dad about the group of guys but he is no longer with us. I'll ask around but it has been at least 20 yrs. I believe FABICK the cat dealer in Salem sold it new. You might check with them and see it anybody there remembers it

Brent,Here is an address to a youtube video of what you are looking for.
https://youtu.be/J-DffV_MWQg From everything I could come up with when I was trying to find info on them several years ago it must have had something to do with Caterpillar. Everyone I came across had a 3306 turbo Cat engine and several different ones i saw for sale had them listed as running Cat challenger undercarriage.There was one for sale on Tractorhouse a couple of years ago and it stayed on the website for a long time.If I could find one for sale I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole and I am a Claas man. The cylinder separation system and lack of used parts would be the deal killer for me.

Thanks for doing some research on the Track 228,that is what I have been told they had to have the cat engine because it was a joint venture with Claas & Cat back in mid 1980,s prior to lexion,we have a older 116 with V8 Merceded and a 228 with V10 Merceded engine, we have been around these rubber tired machines since they first came out and know them inside and out, we love the C/S system as it will run extremely wet crops,but know what you are saying, parts are becoming a real issue on the C/S machines & there are virtually no parts machines left in salvage yards, luckily we started gathering up used and new parts so we have almost every part for the Tired version, we know the track version would have a lot more parts which we don't have,with this being said we would still be interested in looking at one, would really appreciate if anyone would see a track version anywhere, please let us know then we could decide whether to pursue one after physically looking at one. Thanks

This is the only one I ever saw, in 2013 at the FPS in Decatur, ILL, few miles from the Rantoul show.

Dear Sir;

Thank you so much for posting these pictures of this machine, this machine was in Farm Show Condtion, would give anything to find one of these in even have as good as condtion as this one, we saw a Claas 116 which is a little older than 228 with tracks years ago but it was already junk because it had been setting out,but I did not get a chance to really look it over,so I have always wanted to find a 228 and go and really look it over as we are really familiar with 228 tired machine, this is the most detailed pictures I have seen of one of these and really appreciate you posting them,If anyone else would know of one of these machine please post it,would love to go and physically look at one.

Thanks Brent
Called on Track Farms INC. and they informed us it is long been sold unfortunetly.

I work on Lexions for a living and On Track Farming is one of my customers. That machine was an extremely low houred unit. It actually went back to Germany and is in Claas's possession now. That particular machine had a couple downfalls. The drive system on the undercarriage was specific to the 228 Commander so finding any parts for it is virtually impossible. That thing had a strange electronic controlled steering/drive setup that has long since been discontinued. That particular machine had the electronics fried by someone welding on it that didn't know what they were doing before my customer got it. They made a mechanical apparatus on the bottom of the steering column with cables, chains, and sprockets. It worked but it was really squirrely to drive. Especially at much speed.

Was curious if you work at a dealership on Lexions or if you work on them from your own bussiness,was wondering if you have ever worked on any of the class 116 or 228 which were the biggest machines prior to Lexions,I may want to keep in touch with you as we may eventually move up to Lexions, are you located in Ill.

Thanks Brent
