Another 1660 engine question...

Looking at the post below about the Cummins diesel. I have the IHC diesel in my machine. I have read posts in the past about safe rpms and wondering what the consensus is for my engine. Should I be running it full throttle or step it down some?

Should be run at the rated speed for the combine. The correct speed for all components driven by the combine is critical for proper operation. Ben

Leave it alone, unlike the Cummins, that IH engine runs best at 27-2800 rpm, no problem. Unlike the Cummins, the IH engine likes to rev, not lug, so leave it at "normal" IH rpm setting.
The thresher parts need to run at a minimum speed, you can not lower your engine rpm without re gearing the thresher drive as was done with the late Cummins powered models

How fast does yours run? Is your rated speed 2500, as is my Cummins? As stated, I found I don't need anywhere near 2750 no load RPM's to maintain 2500 loaded.

Haven't had it up to full speed much this year and a number is just not coming into my head. It seems to work very well at full rpm's. Good oil pressure. Sounds good. Rotor and fan up to speed. Makes a very clean sample. Thanks for the answers!

Thats a 436 engine right? The 466 is too long a stroke to take the high rpm, ask anybody thats had a 4366 tractor.

A 1660 is a 466. And that is BS about a 466 not taking rpms. The only problem with a 466 in a 4366 is that they were to big of tractor for a little engine and with that weight and no wheel slippage something had to give and was usually the engine. Do you realize all the tractors and combines they were in and had no problems? and they all were turning 2500 rpm plus. Oh and don't forget trucks and buses they only way they make power is rpm's.
