1460 hopper capacity

Can any one give me a good guessimate on what a 1979 1460 with 10" extentions above the factory hopper , should hold for bushels? I know the sticker for tires, and bushel capacity statres 140 bu for lower ply tire, and 180bu for higher ply tires. But what should it be able to hold and how much could a owner add safely above this capacity with out having to worry about axle's?

If you know what the factory hopper holds, measure the extension to determine volume, and multiply by point 8 to determine added capacity. OP manual should show factory volume.

A neighbor had an IH rotary from that era, with 6 RN head, and punched the drive axle up into the bottom augers (it rotated the axle) while going across end rows too fast. He could break an anvil.

I've got a 1660, don't know if this helps, but it seems to hold about 150 bushel before it needs unloading...give or take. I tell you something I learned a long time ago and I treat it like Bible verse now. With older equipment your best plan is to work BELOW capacity. Pushing old machines too hard is asking for trouble. So my rule of thumb on the combine is that I do not fill it above the auger. The truck is sitting there waiting. One or two extra dumps is not going to hurt anything. For what it is worth.
