I am in need of the crop settings for the 1480 I just bought. I thought he had the owners manual with it but only parts manuals & I am trying to get my corn off. I've noticed a lot of cracked kernels & trying to figure out what settings I need to change.
If anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it!!

You set a rotor just like any other machine in corn.

Set the concave to where your getting whole cobs. I usually tighten down until I am breaking some and then open it back up until I get whole cobs again.

Then on the cylinder/rotor speed I slow it down until it leaves some kernels on the cob. Then slowly speed it up until the disappear.

This is where you need to be on settings. I have found that the operators manual is not close on most models of machines. The JD early 9000 series combines being the worst on the suggested setting being garbage. The setting can vary due to wear on the concave/cylinder bars/rotor segments. Also the variety of corn shell differently and then the moisture of the corn makes huge difference too.

Good luck with your "new" purchase!!!

If you have a CIH dealer anywhere near you, go up and ask them. Service manager at the closest one to me is all the time copying/faxing me pages of manuals. Lots of good advice also. It is not a one way street. They know operating an older machine requires parts and supplies and they want your goodwill. The other thing I would mention is, regardless of experience, you should have a manual. I have a fair amount of experience with a lot of different machines and manuals are the first thing I try to acquire before I operate a machine. With manuals as low as $15 on ebay....see the link.

Thank you for all the advice. I have already ordered a manual but it's not here yet & we were trying to get a lot done this weekend.

I run my 1460 and 1440 at 400 rotor speed and 4 to 5 on the concave setting depending how dry the corn is. usually 900 on the fan speed.

Open the bottom sieve all the way. No need to run any shelled corn back through return. Then if you are still getting cracked corn common seance. Open concave, slow down cylinder, or both.
