Claus combine

Anybody familiar with a Claus model 116 "commander" combine? From what I understand, they were not actively marketed in the US. This one was supposedly purchased in Germany used and shipped to the US. I get the impression it is an older machine.

Can't remember his handle but there was a person here that use to do custom work with Ford (Claas) combines. He also bought a Claas Dominator combine to use. Think he went by Haley and had some neat videos of his combines.

The Claas 116 is a bit of an odd ball design. It has a series of cylinders or drums in place of straw walkers. 116 was the biggest of the three models. I think they were a pretty good combine, but did seem to catch fire slightly more than average. That multi drum idea never really seemed to catch on, but there are a few around still working. Getting parts could be a issue. OJ might have more info if he see's this post.

In the early eighties Claas started selling the 116CS in the US. Actually Claas combines have been sold in the states for about 50 years now. First models were sold in Ford blue livery(1967- 79), then Claas starting marketing them as Claas around 1980.First year or two in blue then Claas green.Massey Ferguson even sold a couple models in MF red colors(the 8450 and 8460). And finally in 1998 we have the yellow Lexion machines.
The CS stands for cylinder system. Early CS models were designated Dominators and last models called Commanders. Last model was the Commander 228CS.

I thought of him too. He had neat vids.

I replied in the tractor forum, Claas made a pretty good combine for worldwide use, but they keep kicking in and out of partnerships and USA sales every decade or so, that no one who depends on a harvest for their income will give them the time of day any more. The big Lexons are going, as the big outfits can lease them for 1-3 years and wear. Thrm out, but the average farmer can't seriously buy one and own it, as Claas will shift to a new company in a couple years and leave you orphaned without parts support.

Fairly good machine, crappy company support. Don't trust them.
