One problem solved, another arises... Broken axle

I got the M2 humming along. The header slightly plugged, so I backed up.... Whoops! Why'd I shift downhill?!?! Oh, that's why!

The welds were broken on the bottom side for awhile. I wasn't heavily loaded, I guess it was just time.

A couple hours of blocking, jacking, blocking, jacking, and unbolting, and we're ready for a new rear axle.

I am SO glad I have a couple parts combines!

She's back on four wheels in about 4 hours.

I'm never gonna finish cutting my beans...

In the off season, that would be a three week job for me. When needed in the field, other than finding a replacement, a person can get a lot
done in a short time.

I finished beans last night, man what a messed up harvest season. Beans in November in Minnesota is not a good plan, but how it worked out
this year, finished my corn at the normal time, but had 80% of the beans left to go after the corn was done. What a year. Turned out good.

I'm wiped out on it tho.

Hope things get easier, and you get them off, and you can park her in the shed for another year

Nope, I'm gonna go through her from stem to stern this winter. Maybe I can exorcise a few more demons.

It really is a good machine and has plenty of capacity with a 15 foot head. It's been pretty easy to work on, too. The chaff spreader complicated the axle removal a bit, but otherwise, changing out the axle involved two hoses and a bolt.

One thing I want to do is install a header reverser. It's a pretty simple upgrade that involves a starter and ring gear from a heavy truck.
