Header problem on 9400 JD combine.

Son just called from the bean field and said his floating head will not drop back down as fast as it should after raising up to go over a high spot. Said it is slow returning down to where it should.
Any ideas on what to check first? He is in the field running now.

could be one of the linkages on the head are rusted or something jammed under them is it on older head like a 200 or 900 series , seen to recall my 920 not working well and found sand under the linkages under it. Be sure the accumulator is open so it rides smoother but that should not affect your drop rate.

My son said it is a 915? I think.

Thanks, he found one of the linkages broken and is going to take it off when he gets the truck full and let me weld it.

Glad you found the problem. Did welding the linkage fix it? Nothing worse than the header height control not working.Sure beats watching the little ball on the head!
