White 8900 Combine

What are the good and bad points to consider regarding a White 8900 Combine? Supposedly, the one I am interested in has low hours. What about the availability of parts and original heads? Are decent 706N corn heads still to be found? What about a flex head? Any other information would be appreciated. The machine would be used on a very small acreage farm.

When our neighbors had their 8900, it was a good capacity machine and comparable to the 7720 Deere. Did a good job in both corn and soybeans. I cannot speak to the issues involving the availability of parts, though.

Just picked up an 8920. Did pretty good in the beans. Parts are getting slim but have found most of what I have been trying to get. Agco parts are not cheap they are proud of them. It will do you a good job on a small farm.

The combine itself is a fairly good machine. Parts are getting tough to find used. Then there where many of these machines ever made compared to IH or JD so you have few aftermarket parts too. So those two things makes the parts situation not be very good now and it will get worst in the future. Then add in AGCO being high on new parts too.

IF you find corn heads and platforms they usually are cheap. That is a problem too. They have been so cheap that there are not many left. They get scraped as there are few buyers. I was just through a combine salvage yard last week. They used to have several rows of white combines. There now were three machines. I asked the owner about that. He told me it got to the point he was getting so few calls on them they where more valuable as scrap than parts a few years ago so he sold them and replaced them with brands/models that where in demand.

Don't have an 8900 but am harvesting with a 8700 now (my 2nd one) and have been happy with them. I haven't really had problems with parts availability and there are more aftermarket 8900 parts listed than 8700 and many will fit both. Belts and common wear parts are available aftermarket. Heads are getting a little scarce but are well made and require little repair. As stated by others, AGCO parts are kind of pricey at times but at least they are usually available. Had to rebuild my magnetic header clutch this fall and everything was available from AGCO. Mechanic said that they are finding parts that are NLA for New Holland combines that are 20+ years newer than my White. I think you will be happy with an 8900.
