IH 820 conversion for 1660 combine

I think I have this figured out. The 820 came with a mechanical header height control that used a cable...etc, etc. An electric over hydraulic option was available where you added a potentiometer and harness, then used an adapter to the combine of your choice. I am getting this from the ops manual and setup manual that arrived today. This ties into the diagram kindly provided to me in my last post on the subject which shows the "pot" and related parts as well as harness and the adapter. I think I have it! Now I will just sit and wait for someone to tell me one way or the other. :)

Dave you have it figured out. It sounds like your header is a mechanical/cable unit. You need to find one that has bee converted over to the electric controls.

Truthfully a good 1020 header will not bring much at most sales around here. They are a much better header and came with the controls you need. I see them sell for the $750-1500 fairly regularly.

Thanks! Appreciate the confirmation. I can convert it over depending on the cost of the parts. Seems to be a good working head in all regards. I had it on the combine for a few days and ran it several times. Not sure I would find a 1020 for the price you mention around here, but if I did I would just sell this one and upgrade. Was a time it was a real problem getting heads home from the sales but I picked up a funny looking green and yeller trailer at an auction and now it is a breeze.

Dave it seems the 20 ft headers are the cheapest here. The fifteen footers sell well. I would guess more 20 foot head made plus you still have to take them off to move most of the time. The fifteen can be left on to move.
