IH 863 head, I am working on a slip clutch...

...and, since it came up elsewhere. How and where is the best place to crib up a corn head? I have limited cribbing. Head will be on the combine with lockout engaged. I can crib on either end of the head or I could crib under the feeder house. In addition, I am actually considering driving the IH 300U right under the head and leaving it there. If it saves my life it will be the best it ever worked for me!

I use the cylinder stop and put the bucket of the loader under the head. A couple years ago I started to combine corn and remembered that I had left a door open under the feederhouse. Stopped and crawled under and closed it. Jumped in the combine and went less than 10' and BAM the head fell to the ground. A hydraulic hose broke. My lucky day it waited till I was out.

I bet you spent some time deep in thought that afternoon! I have a real fear of one of those things falling on me. Never did in the past but a year or so back I was trailering a 7000 planter down a county road and the lockout broke and there was no pressure in the hoses. Just happened to be looking in the side mirror and I never saw anything come down so hard in my life. I planted 100' of asphalt before I stopped. Six neat grooves in the road. This stuff is scary heavy and it gives you no warning or time to react.
