JD 6620 dial-a-matic header control not working

I posted a few days ago thinking the header control was not working. Fortunately it is doing an excellent job the way it is for right now.

Had some rain Saturday night which gave me a chance to look things over. First, when the head is lowered and it is about 6 inches from the ground you can let go of the raise/lower lever and the head will continue down and stop - the header control has taken over. Once the header is down you can pull up on the rod on the right hand side and it will not raise. Head is 3 a wire toggle switch system connected to a dial-a-matic combine with the Deere adapter. Today I used a jumper wire from the center (hot wire????) of the 3 wire adapter to the left and right wires in the connecting plug. When touching one side you can hear the solenoid click. But it doesn't raise or lower. When touching the other side I can't hear any sounds, but a time or two the cutter bar actually sank lower. I am assuming the center wire is the power or hot wire. Seems like it operates the same no matter which setting the dial-a-matic knob is at with the exception of "0" the first position. Head lowers by its self once it is close to the ground in all three knob positions past "0". Can you test the hydraulic system by pushing the little pins on the end of the solenoids at the hydraulic control valve??? The way it is I start to push soybean leaves/stems on the ground when it gets damp in the evening. Then I start to build a pile of trash and dirt in front of the sickle bar. I will put dial-a-matic on the head sometime, but I would just like to finish the season first. Head is cutting to low. Thanks.
