Gleaner K variable speed problem

The lower pulley of my gear drive variable speed keeps throwing the 3 studs between the pulleys. The traction drive belt gets very hot. Also both variable width pulleys are very hot. I changed the belt last year. What might be wrong???

It sounds like the bore of the sliding half of the pulley is worn to where it's cocking on the shaft, putting a stress on those pin/guides, they were never meant to handle. There's an o-ring in one end of that movable sheave which keeps the grease off the belt, and forces the grease out the other way. If the sheave is worn to where it can cock around enough to take out the pins, and "work" on the belt making it unusually hot, then the o-ring isn't doing anything. It's nearly impossible to tell how much wear is in there unless you take it all apart, relieving the spring pressure.
