You may have posted the first picture of a JD like we owned in the late 60s. I would still need a pic of the other side before I am sure. I never knew what model and year it was.

The earlier 55s also had only a gravity flow from the grain elevator into the grain tank. Not sure when the folding unloading auger came out but we had a 1950 and a 1953 or 1954 model and both had the fixed unloading auger. I think it was in the mid to late 60s that they had the fold-back unloading auger.

Thanks for the picture, use to be a lot of those 55 and 65's in this areas, and later the 95 and 96's, they were simple, good machines.

The auger folding back along side the seperater came out with the introduction of the HiLo series in 1959. I don't exactly what year JD came out with the 1st folding auger but my literature and manuals make it clear it was only an option. So it was possible to have two 55s from the same year with the straight auger and folding auger.

Guys, heres the sale bill if you want to call the auctioneer to see how things sold..There was
also a nice 1960 model 55 JD combine..It would have been a neat sale to have attended..

The very first combine I run look like the one in the picture only it was a 1954. Hope the scrapper didn't get it. I would of bought it just to walk by everyday and look at it.
