Will heads from MF 510 combine fit MF 850?

We are considering buying a MF 850 combine, but wonder if the heads we currently use on our MF 510 will fit. I suspect the 850 feeder housing is wider than the 510 and so it won't work, but don't know that as a fact.

They are 8 row machines my neighbor had one with a 20" bean header the header from a 510 will attach but I think unless you have a 6 row head you will knock down some corn.

Thank you mudcreek. We have 3 heads for the 510: a 20-foot grain head, a pickup head, and a 4-row 38" corn head. I'm not concerned about the corn head because we'd get a wider narrow-row head, but the main thing is whether these older grain and pickup heads will fit onto the 850...and it sounds like they will.

I realize it was your neighbor's combine, but do you know if any modifications were necessary for the 510 head to fit onto the 850 (for example, hydraulic connections), or was it just a matter of driving into the head and away you go?

the centered corn head will fit but it will put the wheels on the row, for an 850 you need an offset wide row head if you want it to straddle the rows, for narrow rows you run a centered head on an 850, Massey was ahead of others in regard to keeping the wheels off of the rows with the right head

There are panels (not sure of the technical name) that you remove in the center of the head where they attach, it allows you to match the head to the combine feeder house width.

So yes I think they will fit

Thanks for your various inputs. Now that it appears the heads will fit, it will be easier for us to make the bold leap into the exciting new world of a 35-year old combine.

I ran a 410 for year then got a 550 ran it for over 20 2 years ago took the plunge and went with a 25 year old rotary best move I ever did.
