John Deere 45 combine motors

Are engine rebuild kits availible for the hurcules JX-4C-3 motor? and is the HA-145 a wet sleeve type block? and are there rebuild kits for that motor as well? where is a good place to check with? was those two motors used in the roundback 45 combine? I have a chance to buy one but has motor issues has anyone overhauled one of those motors lately? thanks for any advise Howard

Our first SP combine was a 1959 45.That had the HA145 engine which was sleeveless. When I ran that combine I thought I was doing big time work at 7 acres of wheat or oats a day!Times have changed!

First 145 were sleeveless, later 145 was deck plate engine, sleeves all fastened to a plate and when you pulled the deck plate you would just see a bare block with no place for pistons. That engine with the 115 deck plate was used in 1010 tractor and 40 combine, the 145 deck plate was used in the 45 Hi-Lo machine and 2010 tractor. Then later they put in a 165 deck plate in the first square back machines. And I have heard, Don't know if truth or not) the only option is to put in a 165 deck plate with correct pistons for it. You can find all you want to know about the engines on the online parts book on Deere's site.
