You will get various answers on this one. Being you are in WI, I would argue 'yes', but it really depends on how wet the corn is you are going to do. This year perhaps you won't need them. But if you plan on doing corn north of 20%, I 'd suggest you put them in if not in already.

I dont use filler plates in my 95.The old 45 had em.Never saw much if any difference. But my corn is under 20%,usually around 15%.For corn you want between 400 and 600 Rpm on cylinder. The drier corn needs slower speedsto eliminate/redude cracking. Wet corn needs to run faster to get the kernels off. the cob.Your combine should have 27 and 42 tooth sprockets.By reverseing them(42 on cylinder/27 on beater) will get you to the 400 range.By substituteing one or the other with a 35 tooth you get some faster speeds. If you have a book,it will have a chart listing all the possible sprocket/speed combinations,Plus suggested settings for corn. If you dont get one NOW.A combine is to 'complicated',and your crop is too valuable to just 'wing it' without a book.

Thanks DeltaRed I have two 45's with corn heads and both have different settings I found a good corn head for my 55 it never had the grain head off it. It is set up for wheat . Your info on stuff is great thanks again
