Trick to replacing IH14 series seperator belts??

The sepreator drive belts need replacing on both my 1420 and 1460. This is the 3 rib belt that goes off the rear of the PTO drive to the large pulley that drives the threshing rotor and stuff. Followed the book, and removed everything as directed. The problem is, there is only about 1/2"-5/8" space between the smaller(driver) pulley, and part of the structure frame, an approx 1.5"x5" tube steel. Why the engineers didnt design more space has me shaking my head right now. I managed to get the old on off the 1460, but the new one is, well new, and thicker yet. I tried cafefully to pry up the PTO housing a bit, no luck and didnt want to try to hard and crack anything. Is there any advice out there for this situation?? Starting to wish I left the old one in, but it then it was starting to chunk off and seperate between ribs. Thanks in advance for any advice, soon as rain stops I'm trying it again.

managed to get it through and onto the smaller pulley, now I just dont have enough slack to work it onto the seperator pulley, all tensioners are rethacted fully as possible. Its the correct belt, what am I doing wrong?

Sorry, can't help much, just checked on my 1680 and while it looks very tight I think the belt should fit between the frame and drive pulley. I've never changed a pto belt but lots of rotor belt haha. Maybe your rubber engine mounting have colapsed down closing up that already tight gap. I know I've slipped that pto belt off a few tomes, but with h the idler pulley adjusted back I've got it back on without to much hassle. Good luck with your repair and post back how it works out.

Sorry few spelling error in last post - cell phone and combine cab!. With that tensioner backed off belt should go on easy. Tensioner pulley has to move a long way to tension the belt. Your not trying to fit 1420 belt on 1460 are you?

I got it one, It was tight, but got it one. More or less ended up being a push a little here, and here, and then over here all at the right times, and then just like magis it went on everywhere just fine. Now for the 1420 shaker bushings, that looks to be a bit more challenging. 1460 is ready to go, 1420 , not so much
