Dumb question concave ext on 1460

My ol auction find 1460, which has has few issues, has had alotof work to the threshing area of the combine prior to my purchase. It has the
concave extentions on it. I am curious what these do. The cage and vane area was all new. Was there some changes from early to later model
1460's that it needed these extentions? Are the just a performance upgrade? Did some models have a larger diameter rotor the required the
extentions?

I think that was a change when they brought out the 1600 series (1660). It gives a little more concave area to improve threshing. Most all the upgrades CIH made to those combines on up to the 2500 series can be retrofitted back to the 1400's.
